Award-winning international cake artist, Lori Hutchinson, AKA The Caketress, will be travelling over from Canada to teach a very special 2-day class at NY Cake Academy!

Renowned for her haute couture cake designs, Lori has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Brides as well as appearing on the Food Network Challenge. She has made cakes for prestigious clients in Dubai, and travels the globe teaching students her signature skills in cake design.

Join us for an amazing two day class, packed full of professional techniques and tips from a true cake artist. Learn how to make your own version of one of her most dazzling designs; this stunning 4 tier Sequins and Whimsical Flowers cake, covered in her signature gold edible sequins and a blend of three  fantasy sugar flowers all in 2 days. 

The class will cover:

  • Covering and stacking dummy cakes for a perfect finish
  • Making and applying gold edible sequins
  • Creating beautiful sugar wired open peonies, hydrangeas and accent flowers, using stamens
  • How to apply the sugar flowers to the cake
  • Students will decide their own colors and flower placements 
About the instructor: 

Lori Hutchinson – or more formally, The Caketress – is a refreshing reminder that cakes are a universal form of art. Renowned for her skill, her haute couture cake designs, and her ethos that all cakes should be one-of-a-kind, Hutchinson has earned praise from the likes of Harper’s Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Brides – all while cultivating a strong, global fanbase. With the combination of her social media presence and artistry has led to international opportunities that include everything from an appearance on the Food Network Challenge to a welcome place in the Dubai wedding community. 2014 alone has seen The Caketress teach her signature skills and create cakes in four continents, while Hutchinson still stands as one of the few cake artists to have been flown across the world to design and create towering wedding cakes.
